@paulmgardner My gut says someone would have to try to do it. I donโ€™t think it could accidentally happen at this point in time. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 Original URL

When did we take all the fun out of being a kid (reduced recess, increased homework, self-worth tied to activities)? Reading A Wrinkle in Time makes me wonder why Meg and Charles Wallace had so much time to save the universe and werenโ€™t on a travel team. ๐Ÿ”„ 1 ๐Ÿ‘ 14 Original URL

@joenatoli I do think the science teacher is good. But the curriculum based optics vs substance is making me rethink my commitment to public schools in Baltimore. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 Original URL

In conclusion, science is about asking questions and figuring how to answer them. Poorly constructed experiments without context that make people feel like theyโ€™re doing science (similar to 3D printers in schools) are not helping the next gen of researchers. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 Original URL

@bennytheshap Thatโ€™s probably why Iโ€™m so angry about it. Itโ€™s like someone at the district office read the abstract of Kitchen Chem and made this assignment. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 Original URL

This is the official city curriculum. Perhaps it started as the good stuff and just got watered down by the time it was put on a worksheet. But part of me feels we have people designing curriculum who are more interested in looking like it is good learning than actual learning. ๐Ÿ”„ 1 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 Original URL

This wasnโ€™t science and it wasnโ€™t even the life-relevant learning that .@jasoncyip and .@TammyUMD talk about. It was 100% busy work to make the kids feel like they were doing science when they werenโ€™t. It was essentially, academic theater. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 Original URL

We totally had the means to do this, but what about other BALTIMORE CITY kidsโ€ฆthe ones where 55% of the school district are considered low income? Do they all have the food and home security to work on this endeavor? ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 Original URL

The rubric focuses on taking pictures of the process (60%), answering what was different (30%) and asking what your ideal cookie is. So we spent three nights cooking these cookies and wasting a ton of butter and ingredients for ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ from someone who actually likes sci. ๐Ÿ”„ 0 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 Original URL
